Professor Dame Louise Johnson DBE, FRS 1940-2012

We regret to inform our colleagues, past scholars and readers, that Dame Louise Johnson, an esteemed fellow trustee of the VNEF for many years, passed away on the 25th of September 2012 in Adenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Professor Johnson was the David Phillips Professor of Molecular Biophysics, a former Professorial Fellow at Corpus Christi College, and Honorary Fellow of Somerville College, University of Oxford. She graduated from University College London in Physics and completed her PhD at the Royal Institution, London in Molecular Biophysics. She was appointed to the Professorship of Molecular Biophysics in 1990.

Professor Johnson served on many national and international committees for the administration of science and had special interests in promoting science in the developing countries. Her wise guidance at our board meetings, especially her passion to push relevant science candidates and able women to the fore, will be much missed. She was also a great ambassador for young Pakistanis wherever she travelled and worked, and also for the Vicky Noon Educational Foundation on her many visits to speak in Pakistan.
